Happy Halloween!

Today I'm a Little Pumpkin. For part of the day, at least, as it's 80 here, and I don't want to be a roasted pumpkin. Here are my two looks for the day (check out the monster feet socks- how cute! Dash was a little afraid of them. It was funny).

And here's my other look:

I had a good night last night. I guess going through a major trauma really takes it out of you. Here's a shot of my wound. (I have the bandage on still to protect innocent eyes)

I hope I sleep well again tonight. Have to gather my energy for my visit with the Aunties!

Dreft vs me update

PS- as an update to yesterday's blog, my poop is mightier than the Dreft/Shout combination. I win!! Mom is going to try again. Go ahead, Mom, I got more of that where it came from. Heh, heh.

1st appointment

Had my first doctor's appointment today. Must say, I'm not a big fan. To be more precise, not a big fan of nurse Carol. She seemed nice, then stuck my leg with a sharp object, for no reason! I did NOT like that at all. And they made me take off my clothes. I had these really cute "monster" socks on today- those has to go too. Not looking forward to going back there. Apparently I didn't make birth weight yet, so I have to go back next week. I'll be chowing down this weekend! Everything (height, weight and head size) is in the 75%, so I don't know what the big deal was. Dr Nale seems alright, but he was all poking and prodding me. So I spit up on him. I mean jeez, at least buy me dinner first! He did say I can graduate to the Big Boy Bath. We'll see if I like that better than the sponge baths, though last few times weren't that bad.

So it hasn't been the best day so far. Hope things improve. It is Mom and Dad's anniversary today, if they aren't too tired to remember. Hope Dad likes the present she got him, as it was all my idea. Last night I had a hard time getting to sleep. So we're all just stumbling around today. One more day, then the weekend! I get to see Dad more, plus Auntie Libby and Auntie Smelly are coming to visit me. I'll start saving some spit-up for them.

2 week anniversary

Had my two week anniversary yesterday. Didn't do too much to celebrate. I did have my first outing, but it was to my mom's doctor. It went alright, I got a lot of cooing over how cute I am, which always pleases me. Really I slept through everything, which is a good way right now for me to go through life. Tomorrow is my doctor's appointment. Hope I don't have to get a shot like Mom did.

Had my first diaper blow-out today. Too bad it was on a cute outfit I was wearing for the first time. Guess we'll see if Dreft is a match for my superpowered poop. Aunt Georgia was visiting then, and brought over what looks like super yummy Milky Way cake as well as dinner. Mom and Dad can have the dinner, I'm going for cake!

Here is a picture of me at the start of my 3rd week. I'm waving, really.

Weekend Update

We had an up and down weekend. I was up most of the night Saturday and Sunday, which makes my parents down. It's just more fun to party at night than in the day. Saturday Dad did yard work, which I checked out for a while. He does good work. Uncle Hugh stopped by and gave me a plate with my name and birth info on it for the nursery. It's pretty cool and looks good in there. Sunday Mai and Ernest came by so Ernest could meet me. Then Dad and Mom took me for a car ride to pick up lunch, though I didn't get anything. :-( I did my civic duty in the afternoon, napping so Dad then Mom could go vote early. It was a nice day, so we then went for a walk, longer than we had been before. Then at night it started getting blustery (love that word!) and the wind made the windows growl. Mom got freaked out and brought me to their room, where I partied all night. I'm supposed to be napping now, but we'll see. Tomorrow brings another car ride, as we are going to Mom's doctor for her two week check-up. Mom told me Aunt Libby jumped out of a plane this past weekend. She's supposed to be coming to visit me this coming weekend with Aunt Melanie, so hope this time she stays in the plane. She looked very scared in the pictures. So that's 2 aunts who have skydived!

Things I Like

So Dash is a pretty cool cat. When I got back from my walk, he jumped up on the stroller to say Hello. He looks like fun- wish I was old enough to chase him around, but all in due time. Though I don't think it's that funny that he keeps pushing my baby pumpkin off of the counter. What's up with that?! Pick on your own pumpkin, man.

I love playing the game "Where are my thumbs?" Especially when I'm telling Mom, very politely of course, that I would like a bite to eat, and she's trying to accommodate me. Makes me giggle when I do this in the middle of the night (yes, I really do know my days from nights, but don't tell the 'Rents). Then I decide to play "Who cares if you don't have thumbs, just stuff the whole thing in your mouth" for a while. While crying that I'm never fed. Heh heh.

Other things that I'm interested in are: The Ceiling in the Den. Hiccuping. Scratching My Face. Making My Funniest Faces when the Camera isn't Around. Making My Own Schedule. My Bionic Ear. Oh, did I not tell you about that? During my hearing test, I got a 175 in my left ear (160 is passing) and a 461 in my right! Blew that sucker off the scale. Nurse hadn't seen a number like that in a while. This comes in handy when I need to hear what's going on in the other room, like when dinner is being served, so I can time my feedings properly (see previous mention of Making My Own Schedule). The other night I got it down perfectly- right when Mom's plate hit the table, I started crying for food. This supersonic hearing is going to be fun!

I also like screeching like a howler monkey. (I'm taking Mom's word that I sound like a howler monkey, as I have never heard one). Just randomly, to keep everyone on their toes. Any suggestions for other animals I can imitate? I'm thinking lion next, as that sounds more manly than howler monkey. But I'm open to ideas, seeing as my world experience has been limited thus far.

Oh, another thing I like is the website cakewrecks.blogspot.com. I think Mom has mentioned it before, but here is a new post that made her almost split her c-section incision: http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2008/10/confessions-of-cake-wrecker.html Maybe the timing of it helped to tickle her funny bone, seeing as she recently went through something similar.

So that's a start of my list of things I like. Hope there are more great things to come!

Free from the cord!!

I probably won't be able to update this every day, but with new news comes a new post. I lost my umbilical cord today. Hooray, a belly button of my own! I did miss most of my afternoon nap, so we'll see if I'm up to celebrating tonight. Last night I had a good night, going to bed at a decent hour. Mom and Dad are hopeful it's a sign of things to come, but I have my own agenda. Only one more day till the weekend, when Daddy gets to spend all day with me. He's going to start teaching me about yard work. Sounds like fun!

First week, part two

I'm back. In a week of firsts, I think I might be getting my first rain storm. Could be exciting!! So where was I? Oh, yeah, first bath. Not like I want to re-live that experience! There are some times where it's fun to be naked, but this was not one of them. Where are the heat lamps?! Boris was concerned about me, as I was most upset, according to Grandma. That was sweet, but he's still not getting the changing pad. And no pictures of the bath, this isn't that kind of site! Now the first walk was fun, I think. I slept through it. But my cheeks bounced nicely as Dad steered over acorns. Here is a picture of us on our first outing:

And here's me showing my excitement for fresh air.

Mom and I went on another walk today. It was quite blustery. That's a fun word. I can't wait till I'm old enough to watch "Pooh and the Blustery Day". That will be a while off.
Aunt Mai came by last night and dropped off a yummy Mexican casserole. While I didn't have any directly, I enjoyed it vicariously. This weekend Uncle Drew and Aunt Georgia are coming by (they are really First Cousin Once Removed, but that's a mouthful for me). I love meeting family! I stay part time in the bassinet that Second Cousin Andrew used, which is cool. I won't meet him this time, as I'm still young. But we may go to the Christmas parade together, as Mom and Dad usually go with him.
So I guess that's about it for this post. Till next time!
Love,
Harris

The First Week

Hello, everyone-

It's me, Harris! So glad you wanted to come check out my view of the world. I do have a lot of time right now to think about things, as my schedule each day consists of eating and sleeping. So far the first week has been quite a whirlwind! It was almost exactly a week ago that I decided it was time for me to leave the safety of the womb and journey out into the dark and scary world. But I was curious to put faces to the voices I kept hearing. So on to better things. The trip itself was kind of chaotic. Turns out I needed a detour, as I couldn't fit through the doorway. Everyone is saying I'm a big baby. But they don't mean that in a bad way, like I'm too sensitive. Apparently I'm kind of large for my age, but I say they just make the clothes too small. So that was last Tuesday. The hospital stay was kind of fun, lots of things to see and learn. I met my grandma and Paul, and Uncle Hugh, Aunt Cassie and cousin Shapleigh (she wasn't interested in me at all) while there. Oh, here's a picture of me from then:

Check out those guns!! I look a bit different now, more like my dad every day. He's a good looking dude. I sooo have him wrapped around my teeny tiny figure. Here's the proof:

Here's a picture of Mom. She feeds me, so I think I'll keep her around.

We went to a new place on Friday, called "home". It's been interesting there so far. I like the room they keep me in. I do have to share with 4 other small creatures. I haven't had much interaction with them. They came and sniffed at me- I guess that is the usual greeting in this new world. Boris, the big one, is having trouble sharing the changing pad. No worries, there's room enough for 2! I haven't seen much of the beautiful black one, Tasha. She sleeps a lot on the couch, and I hang out in other areas. Delaney is really nice. She comes to check on me and seems the most willing to hang with me. Dashell hasn't been around much. He also likes the changing pad (I must say, I don't see the appeal- I don't have the best time when I'm there). He seems a bit subdued, so I'm waiting for him to show his true colors. We both kind of squeak at times. So that's a bit on the new hang-out. We'll see how I like the stay here.

Geez, I still have so much to go over! First bath, first walk, etc. But I need to save some things for later, to keep you coming back. I like having people interested in me. So feel free to leave comments (comments about my beauty will get faster responses). Not sure how often I'll be able to update, my schedule is kind of up in the air right now. But I'm sure there will be pictures (Mom is kind of crazy with the picture taking). Till then!

Love,

Harris
